Bhaagon Waali 27th May 2011 Written Update

Runjhun rushes down to look for Guddu. She runs into Kalsanwali and asks her if she has seen Guddu. Kalsanwali taunts Runjhun and tells her that she runs after Guddu 24/7 and asks her if she was planning on sleeping the whole day. She hands Runjhun the bucket she is holding and tells her to get to work. Runjhun puts the bucket down and says no to Kalsanwali and says she needs to find Guddu and rushes out. (Runjhun actually said no to house chores)
Guddu is contemplating last night and thinks about Runjhun, and him kissing her on her cheek, then remembers the calendar. He says this isn't love, but infatuation and he needs to get over it, because for Runjhun, only the challenge is important. Runjhun comes over and finds Guddu. She rushes over to him. Guddu thinks that the dictionary of lies is walking over. Runjhun comes over and they both avoid looking at each other. (She is Runjhun Mishra again)
Runjhun hesitates then finally gets the courage to ask Guddu. She asks him what happened last night. Guddu says last night he was flying in the air, then he crashed hard, and today he's walking on the ground barefoot. Runjhun doesn't understand what he means. She tells him not to talk in riddles but tell her what happened last night. Guddu doesn't want to talk, and he walks off from there, and Runjhun chases after him, calling out to him.
Kalsanwali watches and wonders if the calendar thing worked. Runjhun tells Guddu to stop and says that she wants to know what happened last night. Guddu tells her that he doesn't want to talk about yesterday. Runjhun asks Guddu if she did something to cause him shame yesterday. She tells him that she wasn't herself. Guddu asks her if she really wasn't herself. Runjhun says she is feeling bad about whatever happened [...]

Margin Concerns Weigh On Tata Motors

Sales volumes at Jaguar-Land Rover, the two U.K.-based brands that the company acquired from Ford Motor, rose 26% in 2010-11.

Investors chose to ignore Tata Motors Ltd.'s tripling of 2010-11 earnings and instead focus on the company's shrinking operating profit margins. Analysts say the stock will remain under pressure in the coming months as competition in India intensifies, shrinking profit margins further.

Late Thursday, India’s largest auto maker by sales, said its consolidated profit for the year through March jumped to 92.74 billion rupees ($2.05 billion) from 25.71 billion rupees the previous year, while sales grew 33% to 1.23 trillion rupees.

Sales volumes at Jaguar-Land Rover, the two marquee U.K.-based brands that the company acquired from Ford Motor Co. in 2008, rose 26% in 2010-11. The unit accounted for about 63% of Tata Motor’s total sales and 84% of its profit during the fiscal year.

Despite the strong performance, Tata Motors' stock sank to one-month low when markets opened Friday. In afternoon trade, Tata Motors was down 6.3% at 1,088.00 rupees, while the 30-share benchmark Sensex was up 1.1%.

The company–part of the Tata Group which has interests ranging from salt-to-software-to-telecom—doesn't report quarterly figures, so investors had to crunch the numbers themselves. And they discovered that operating margins had shrunk in January-March. The operating margin of the India business narrowe [...]

Pakistan, India Are Type A Nations: Study

Apparently Pakistan, Malaysia and India are in mucho need of relaxation.

A survey that asked 6,823 people across 32 countries what sorts of behavior were okay in different everyday situations scored these three nations the highest on psychological "tightness"—in other words they're all nations with strong cultural rules and low tolerance for deviation from them.

Who's at the other end of the spectrum? Estonia and Ukraine, nations that appear to have much more of an "anything goes" attitude.

According to the study's authors (there are 45 of them) all sorts of things can cause cultural rigidity, such as a history of having to compete for scarce resources, having a high population per square mile or facing territorial threats (both India and Pakistan fit the bill on all counts).

"Ecological and human-made threats increase the need for strong norms and punishment of deviant behavior in the service of social coordination for survival," said the paper, which was published in the journal Science on Friday.

Uptight countries accept a narrower range of behaviors in everyday situations—like offices, classrooms and other public places. And people who come from these countries are more likely to be cautious and diligent, and worry about not making mistakes, the research found.

Researchers asked participants about 12 behaviors—crying, singing and flirting, for example—and whether it would be appropriate or inappropriate to exhibit them in 15 different situations, such as a job interview, in an elevator, or at a funeral, among others.

The research also incorporated historical data into their survey, including population density in the year 1500 and the amount of conflict the country had seen between 1918 and 2001, and looked for correlations with the cultural outlook of the nations.

French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde announced her candidacy for the IMF’s top post in Paris on Wednesday.

French Defense Minister Gérard Longuet on Friday confirmed Ms. Lagarde, who already enjoys strong European backing, will soon be visiting India to push her candidacy for the top job at the IMF.

Speaking to reporters on the last day of his two-day visit here, Mr. Longuet didn't provide details on when exactly Ms. Lagarde would be coming to India but he did say she would make it one of the first stops of her global tour aimed at rallying support for her bid to become the fund's first female managing director.

"The significance of India is made clear by the fact that New Delhi will be one of the first places Ms. Lagarde will be coming to as part of her campaign," said Mr. Longuet.

Ms. Lagarde has said China will likely be her first stop, adding that she was prepared to visit the country as early as Sunday.
